ABOUT THE C.A.R.I.B.E. Refugee Program

Thank your for visiting the CARIBE Refugee Program's Webpage. Allow me to tell you something about our program:

  

CARIBE stands for Career Recruitment and Instruction in Basic English. The CARIBE Refugee Program was established in July 2002 through the partnership of The School District of Hillsborough County Adult Education Program, Tampa Bay Refugee Task Force and the Department of Children and Families, Office of Refugee Services. Since 2002, the CARIBE Refugee Program has served over 17,000 refugees, asylees and parolees from different nations such as Cuba, Haiti, Burma, Iraq, Sudan, Colombia, Congo, Egypt, El Salvador, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Honduras. Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Liberia, Russia, Somalia, Venezuela and Vietnam.   

 

For the past 14 years, the CARIBE Refugee Program provided adult education services to clients such as:

  • English Language Instruction

  • Enrollment in Post Secondary Vocational Courses

  • Transportation Assistance

  • Referrals to health, legal and employment providers

  • Assistance in gaining General Education Diploma

  • Degree translation and evaluation

 

As of August 1, 2014, the CARIBE Refugee Program will provide the following services to our clients/students: 

  • Refugee-specific English Language Instruction

  • Computer-Assisted Instruction

  • Intensive Case Management and Integration Assistance

  • College and Career Readiness

  • General Education Diploma

  • Transportation Assistance

  • Textbooks and Test Preparation Materials

  • Degree Evaluation and Translation

 

Our program will continuously strive to offer excellent English Language Intruction and outstanding customer service to our clients/students. This year, we added three new courses to our program offerings: 

  • Citizenship

  • English Literacy for Career and Technical Education

  • Workplace Readiness Skills

Please ask one of our intake counselors, lead teachers or paraprofessionals about these new program offerings. Take time to visit one of our sites or our main office to get more information regarding services we provide. The wonderful staff working in the CARIBE Office would be very glad to assist you. Our Mission

The CARIBE Refugee Program’s mission is to contribute towards effective refugee resettlement by providing high quality English language instruction, assistance in gaining vocational/technical training or certification, integration assistance and intensive case management leading to improved employability and/or workplace effectiveness, self-sufficiency, increased integration  to modern American society, and a step closer towards achieving their American Dream.   

 

Our Vision

The CARIBE Refugee Program will become a    leading provider of high quality adult education and English language instruction to refugees and other entrants all across the state of Florida and the United States.
